Youth Sport Coaches

Hi there, brave people. I see you showing up every Saturday morning, ready to be with everyone else’s kids while yours are off somewhere else.

You give your time and skills because you are dedicated and know it’s the right thing to do.

Some mornings, you wonder why the heck you are there, right? It’s raining and cold. The cones are missing again and someone didn’t put the keys back. Plus the kids are going nuts. All the session plans are going out the window as you break up another squabble. Then you feel the red mist rising, and it’s game over.

My name is Gillian, and I have experienced all that too. I still do on occasion. I have wanted to do better, felt powerless, and either attacked or retreated.

I found another option when I trained as a Positive Discipline Parent Educator and recognised its value for the world of youth sports. The material in this training is based on Jane Nelsen’s classic “Positive Discipline” book and the work of Reed Maltbie. It has been successful in 100,000s of homes and schools and is over 20 years in the making. In 2016, Positive Discipline was named one of 5 parenting books that help people be both better parents and managers by Fast Company.

I am honoured to bring it to families and the Youth Sports community. Visit my YouTube channel to see the responses from some UK-based international athletes and coaches.

Here is Mark sharing his experience of training delivered by me and what it means for him and his coaches:

So… do you want to:

• Feel confident with groups of all ages and abilities
• Understand and respond to misbehaviour with loving guidance
• Spot when the “red mist” is coming and have other options
• Develop tools within yourself and your team to encourage the whole group
• Have kids feel safe and happy in your environment
• Resolve responsibility and role issues
• Build effective communication between all staff and club members
• Coach athletes who volunteer, contribute and recognise themselves as valued team members

If the answer is “yes” to any of these, register for an introduction workshop today to find out how Positive Discipline tools can work for you and your community.
